Stone Free: A Remarkable Supplement for Kidney Stones

A chronic, painful condition, kidney stones affect many people across the globe. While it’s a treatable condition, for some people it is a lifelong one.

Passing the stones can be extremely unpleasant and agonizing. It can also be a fairly embarrassing situation.

There is, however, a product made to help pass the stones without too much stress on the body. Through continued and regular use, it can alleviate the need for pain relievers.

The process of kidney stones can hurt even during the early stages where the stones begin forming.

Stone Free not only helps with relief during this phase but it can also help you avoid multiple trips to emergency rooms or having to schedule appointments specialists.

This kidney stone supplement can be purchased at most natural health stores or online. It is a combination of natural ingredients that form a supplement that is tailored to support and cleanse the liver, gallbladder, and kidneys.

The product was created by well-renowned herbalist and acupuncturist Michael Tierra.

The Body’s Filtration System

Healthy kidneys act as your body’s natural filtration system. They filter waste products, together with various minerals, from your blood and even more liquid wastes through urine.

There are times, however, when your body needs help in order to counteract all of the stress put on it.

Marshmallow root and parsley root, both of which are in Stone Free , have been used historically as a means assist in the regulating fluid waste elimination and other general digestive tract functions.

Marshmallow root, in particular, is a great addition to your waste flushing system because it has a high percentage of mucilage (a heavy coating that is both viscous and smooth).

Mainly, these roots help ensure that there is no blockage within the urinary tract so that wastes can pass through smoothly.

Kidney stones, as they develop and grow larger in your body, can prevent this smooth flow and cause a buildup of toxins.

The larger the stone, the longer it takes to pass. It can take a long time before the body naturally breaks it down in order for the process to begin.

Other ingredients include turmeric root, dandelion root extract, lysimachia, lemon balm, licorice root, and ginger root.

Stone Free helps to quickly break down any oversized kidney stones in your body quickly and safely.

For those who appreciate natural options or just to wait it out, Stone Free can reduce the wait time. If you’re unsure of when to begin taking Stone Free, you can begin to use it at the onset of your bodily discomfort.

When you notice your urine getting cloudy or start developing back pain, you can begin your Stone Free intake.

It is also helpful if you take the supplement with a regular amount of organic cranberry juice in order to help digestion.

Using Stone Free

Incorporating the supplement into your daily routine is fairly easy. Your liver, kidneys, and gallbladder sometimes get overworked through the constant process of trying to flush toxins from your body.

As highlighted, some of the ingredients in Stone Free are dandelion root extract, licorice root, and turmeric. These have been proven to aid in supporting the health of your organs.

Stone Free has multiple functions. Working as a cleanser, it helps to detox your body by removing fat-soluble toxins, minerals, and other solid wastes. But it does more than that.

Normal bodily fluid release and bile production will be stimulated and supported by this natural kidney stone treatment.

While this is a great addition to your lifestyle, you should be mindful not to aggravate any underlying conditions. By avoiding an excessive amount of saturated fats, Stone Free will be able to work at its best to keep you healthy and regular.

When using the liquid form, you’ll want to take roughly 2 mL up to five times a day. If you opt for the tablet form, have 2 in the morning followed by 3 tablets in the evening, spacing each one between your meals.

With the right combination of health, diet and exercise for your body, adding this kidney stone supplement will help keep you free of kidney stones and help in removing this painful condition from your life.

Other Natural Supplements to Treat Kidney Stones

Apart from the supplements listed above, there are many things that you can do to help prevent kidney stones.

Staying hydrated, reducing salt intake, limiting alcohol intake, and limiting foods with high calcium oxalate are just some of the ways. However, it’s best to see a doctor if you suspect that a kidney stone is the cause of discomfort or pain.

Keeping Your Body Alkaline to Decrease Your Risk of Diseases

We all must watch what we eat. To keep the body healthy, we need a balanced diet. The keyword here is balanced. Our bodies need homeostasis so that they can survive. What is homeostasis?

In this case, it means that your body maintains a balance between acid and alkaline. You should never have too much or too little of either.

A pH greater than 7 is recommended in order to have the proper chemicals and compounds to lead a healthy and productive life. [R]

Below are some of the key benefits and other tips for keeping your body alkaline for good health.

Disease Prevention

It has been shown in some studies that having a slightly higher alkaline level in your body is vital for good health as it reduces mortality and morbidity of chronic illnesses.

On the other hand, having more acid in your body promotes diseases. [R]

Proper Digestion

It is imperative to keep things moving in your body to have a healthy lifestyle.

While your stomach needs acid to break down foods that you eat, having too much acid can cause issues with the function of your digestive system.

This is another reason why it is important to keep your alkaline levels slightly higher than 7.

Breathing Effects

Proper breathing helps to keep the body alkaline. Having slightly higher alkaline levels in the blood can help to regulate your carbon dioxide levels and the levels of oxygen it receives.

Deep breathing is one of the most effective ways to alkalize the body. [R]

Calcium Levels

Calcium is a very important mineral that your body needs in order to maintain healthy bones as you age.

When the body has too much acid, your calcium levels can decrease, which gives you a greater risk of developing diseases such as osteoporosis.

Osteoporosis is responsible for keeping your bones and teeth healthy and strong. Without calcium, bones can become brittle and easily break causing many problems in older patients.

Blood Circulation

As you know, blood circulation is very important in leading a healthy life.

Blood is circulated throughout your body and goes to all your major organs and any crevice in your body. This is necessary for survival.

Having a pH level that is slightly higher than 7 is more beneficial to your body.

Having a pH level of 7 means that there is a neutral level of alkaline and acid. Going slightly more alkaline is better for your body.

What If I Have Too Much Acid in My Body?

Just like if you eat too many carbs, or have too much fiber, having too much of something can have some negative effects on your body. It is the same concept as having too much acid in your body.

Too much acid in the body is called acidosis. [R] If you are experiencing acidosis, you might be having symptoms of fatigue and vomiting with nausea.

Sometimes very severe cases of acidosis can cause headaches, lethargy and, if not treated, can eventually lead to coma or death.

It is very important to make sure you maintain homeostasis within your body to protect your health.

How to Keep Your Body Alkaline

1. Alkaline Foods

Organic vegetables and fruits can help to add some alkalinity to your body, but it is important to know that it is difficult to maintain alkaline levels by changing your diet if you do not know how to go about it.

Adding alkaline foods such as spinach, carrots, wild rice, cauliflower, and dark leafy greens on whole can help in maintaining a balance in the body’s pH levels.

Cutting out acidic-forming foods such as soda, coffee, refined flour and sugar, and junk foods can assist in balancing your pH levels.

2. Lemon Water

Pure water with a dash of freshly squeezed lemon is one of the recommended ways to give the body a clean boost of energy. Lemon added to water helps optimize enzyme function and oxygenate the body.

3. Exercise

Exercise works the muscles and can help reduce the build-up of acid in the body. Aerobic exercise is one of the best forms as it works your heart and lungs, bringing in abundant oxygen into the body.

4. Alkaline Water

Alkaline water helps to neutralize acid in the body as it has a higher pH level than regular drinking water. Instead of a pH of 7, alkaline water has a pH of around 8 or 9. Most spring waters are alkaline.

5. Things to Avoid

  • Caffeine
  • Too much alcohol
  • Stress
  • Acidic foods (processed foods, cereals, eggs, soda, pasta, white flour, sugar, etc.)
  • Bad association

Having an alkaline body is good for your overall health, and it has many benefits that are great for maintaining a happy and healthy lifestyle.

It is important to know what kinds of foods you should eat, and how having a slightly higher alkaline body can benefit you in the long run.

Having too much acid or even too much alkaline can be detrimental to your health. It is beneficial to maintain a level of homeostasis that can ensure you will live and long and happy life.

Treating Cancer Naturally

Cancer comes as a result of numerous issues in the body such as a poor immune system, lack of oxygen, excess acidity, toxic substances, and a host of other substances. Since many of these problems can be treated, cancer itself can be treated.

Approaches that are natural for cancer treatments are available, but it takes both time and dedication to the methods to be successful. There is no one herb or natural supplement that can treat this dreaded condition. It takes a variety of certain combinations of natural treatments and dietary adjustments—thus the need for patience.

Cancer is a group of diseases that cause varying symptoms. The symptoms and signs one experiences will depend upon the location of it in the body. If cancer spreads, there will be varying signs and symptoms throughout the body.

Often, it starts small and in places of the body that give no sign or symptom. For example, cancer of the pancreas does not cause symptoms until the tumor becomes large. When it grows large, they begin to press on other tissues and organs in the body.

Symptoms of certain cancers can be fatigue, fever, or weight loss. Cancer cells use up the body’s energy supply which explains the reason for these symptoms. It can also cause the immune system to react in various ways.

Causes of Cancer

Substances that cause cancer are known as carcinogens. Most carcinogens cause DNA mutation. Some types of radiation, bacteria, and viruses can lead to cancer.  The following are some various substances and factors that have been known to cause cancer.

  • Environmental exposure such as factories or plants in a community.
  • Geographical influences such as tropical places where fungi and mold is in excess.
  • Lifestyle choices such as smoking, excessive alcohol consumption, excessive consumption of certain foods, and drug abuse.

Symptoms

Symptoms of cancer have varying ranges, and many of them can be general symptoms that could also indicate 2 other issues.  If symptoms persist, you should consult a doctor.

1. Unexplained Weight Loss

Weight loss is inevitable at some point with most people who have cancer. If a person begins losing weight, and there is no explainable reason, it might be a great sign for concern.

Weight loss occurs most often with esophagus or pancreas cancer. [R]

2. Pain

Pain is most common with bone cancers or testicular cancer. Brain tumors cause headaches that will not go away.

Back pain can be a symptom of colon, ovarian, or rectal cancer. Unfortunately, pain is an indicator that the cancer has spread from where it originally started.

3. Fever

Fevers will rise when cancer has spread. Night sweats often accompany these types of fevers.

Most people with cancer will experience a fever at some point, particularly if it is affecting the immune system. Fevers can be an early sign of leukemia or lymphoma. [R]

4. Fatigue

When you remain tired even after you have had plenty of rest, you are fatigued. Fatigue happens early with cancers like leukemia. Certain colon or stomach cancers cause blood loss which leads to fatigue.

5. Skin Changes

Darkening, redness, and yellowing of the skin can be possible signs of cancer. Always have a doctor check sores that will not heal.

Freckles, moles, or warts that change in size, color, or shape are signs of skin cancer. Itching of the skin and excessive hair growth can also be signs of this condition.

6. Changes in Bowel or Bladder Function

Bowel issue such as diarrhea and constipation can be signs of cancer. People with prostate and bladder cancer have been known to have pain and bleeding during urination.

Any unusual bowel or bladder changes should be reported to your doctor.

7. Bleeding

Unusual bleeding should always be checked by a doctor. Coughing up blood or bloody stool are causes for concern.

Women with cervical or endometrial cancer will often have unusual vaginal bleeding. Bloody discharge from a woman’s nipples indicates breast cancer.

8. Changes in the Mouth

Patches in your mouth or on your tongue can often indicate precancerous cells that can turn to oral cancer.  Sores, bleeding, and numbness in the mouth are also signs of mouth cancers.

9. Indigestion

Frequent indigestion or problems swallowing are signs of stomach, esophagus, or throat cancer.

10. Swollen Lymph Nodes

Enlarged lymph nodes can be a sign of cancer.  If your lymph nodes stay swollen for more than four weeks, you should consult a doctor.

11. Lumps

A lump or thickening of the skin can be a sign of early or late cancer. People with cancer of the lymph nodes, breast, soft tissues, and testicular cancers will have lumps form.

12. Nagging Cough or Hoarseness

A cough that lingers can be a sign of lung cancer. If you remain hoarse for a long period of time, it could be a sign of cancer of the larynx.

Of course, it is normal to have some coughing and hoarseness with colds and other issues. However, if it persists for longer than normal, you should consult a physician.

13. Shortness of Breath

If a person is short of breath, it does not necessarily mean that there is a cause for concern.

Shortness of breath can be an indicator of several issues, but it can be a sign of cancer. Always consult a physician if you remain short of breath for longer than usual.

14. Breast Changes

Most breast lumps are not cancer, but they should always be checked.

The following changes in your breasts should be reported to a doctor:

  • Puckering or skin dimpling
  • Nipple discharge
  • Nipples that turn inward
  • Scaling or redness or the nipple or breast

15. Bleeding Between Periods

If you spot between periods, you should notify your doctor. Any bleeding that is not part of your normal cycle should be reported to your doctor.

All abnormal bleeding is not necessarily malignant, but it should be monitored.

16. Bloating

Women get bloated from time to time, but if a woman remains bloated, it might be a cause for concern.  If bloating occurs with bleeding and weight loss, consult your doctor.

Constant bleeding could be a sign of cancer such as colon, ovarian, uterine, or pancreatic.

How to Treat Cancer Naturally

A variety of natural approaches to treating cancer are available, but you must be committed to a lifestyle change in order to see positive results.

For diet choices, please note that we recommend eating only organic foods.

Ketogenic Diet

Food can be used as medicine in the natural approach for cancer treatment.

The keto diet consists of high healthy fats, moderate protein, and low carbohydrates. Ketones are released in the body that stimulates the production of mitochondria.

Diets that are high in carbohydrate content burden the mitochondria which produce free radical formation and the mutation of cells leading to cancer.

Cancer cells thrive on the energy created by glucose. The opposite occurs when the body is fueled by fat rather than glucose.

The following foods are recommended on a ketogenic diet: free-range poultry, berries, coconut oil, fish, avocados, olives, and low carb vegetables and fruits.

These foods contain properties that slow down the progression of cancer.

Juicing Greens and Eating Sprouts

Many experts recommend juicing to provide powerful nutrients to a body that has tumors. The digestive tract is given aid by juicing fruits and vegetables that are digested quickly. [R]

Antioxidants from these juices provide the immune system the power needed to fight cancer.

Anti-cancer properties of cells are naturally boosted by eating sprouts. Sprouts from kale, broccoli, and cauliflower are only needed in small amounts to contribute the protective properties needed. [R]

Natural enzyme processes are supported by sprouts. A variety of nutrients are available in sprouts such as Vitamin K, amino acids, minerals, beta carotene, glutathione, chlorophyll, and sulforaphane.

Vitamin D

You can get Vitamin D from the sun or approved supplements. Vitamin D is responsible for the development and nourishment of the nervous system.

Researchers are amazed by the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties associated with Vitamin D. Killer cell secretion is limited during conditions such as pregnancy.

The body synthesizes GcMAF through Vitamin D. GcMAF is needed to influence tumor cells to proliferate and reverse the effect of certain cancers.

Turmeric

Turmeric contians anti-inflammatory agents that help to prevent cancer. It has the same inflammation prevention and control as Ibuprofen and Aspirin. Read more on this ancient healing spice.

This root tuber is a great addition as spices to most foods. As a result, oxidative stress damage is reduced.

Fermented Foods

Foods that have plenty of healthy bacteria have a vital role in regulating the health of your body.  If harmful microbes are in the gut, the risk for metabolic disorders is decreased.

The risk of certain cancers such as colorectal carcinoma, pancreatic cancer, and gallbladder cancer is decreased as well. Healthy bacteria produce what is needed to fight cancer. [R][R]

Enzymes

Enzymes stimulate and maintain normal biological functions. They also remove toxins from the body and enhance anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory agents.

Nutrient dense foods like broccoli have a vast array of enzymes. The body is given what it needs to remove toxins naturally.

Lemon and lime buffer PH along with natural enzymes to help the body metabolize nutrients.

Some foods that are rich in enzymes are avocado, papaya, pineapple, cucumbers, garlic, ginger root, coconut, sprouts, flaxseed, apple cider vinegar, lemon, and lime.

Detoxification

Certain detoxification pathways promote healing from cancer.  The following are some steps you can take to remove toxins from your body and bring healing:

  • Hydrating with lemon water
  • Infrared saunas
  • Coffee enemas
  • Dry brushing
  • Eating an anti-inflammatory diet
  • Castor oil packs
  • Cleanses (liver, kidney, lungs, lymph, colon)
  • Good oral hygiene,
  • Exercise
  • Deep breathing or getting enough oxygen

Healing your emotional health is as important as removing toxins from your body.  An aromatherapy massage stimulates the lymphatic system.  Essential oils relieve stress and provide good health.

Budwig Protocol

Budwig protocol combines organic cottage cheese that is low-fat along with flaxseed oil. Along with lifestyle changes, using this combination stimulates proper cellular function.

Flaxseed oil has electrons and saturated fat, and cottage cheese has a sulfur protein.

When these are combined, a chemical reaction occurs that causes a chemical reaction that brings certain dead cells back to life. Oxygen is attracted to the cells which kill cancer cells.

What to Eat

Cruciferous Vegetables

Kale, cauliflower, broccoli, cabbage, and Brussel sprouts are major cancer fighters. [R]

Studies show that these vegetables lower the risk of stomach and lung cancers. Other studies proved that eating cabbage lowers the risk of breast cancer.

These vegetables enhance your body’s natural detoxifying enzymes.

Foods Rich in Vitamin D and Calcium

The combination of calcium and Vitamin D can protect you from breast cancer and colon cancer.

Women under 50 need 1000 milligrams of calcium per day and 400 International Units of Vitamin D per day. Salmon and orange juice are good sources of both nutrients.

Foods High in Fiber

Fiber is a good protectant against cancer. Research has proven that women who have a healthy amount of fiber in their diets are less likely to have various types of cancers than those women who do not have the amount needed.

Since fiber speeds up the passage of stool, your cells have less exposure to toxins.

Tomatoes and Berries

Some evidence suggests that tomatoes and tomato products reduce the risk of prostate, pancreatic, gastric, and ovarian cancers. Experts believe that lycopene in tomatoes prevents cell damage.

Berries are also said to have anti-cancer benefits. Blueberries, raspberries, and strawberries have high anti-oxidant properties. They will protect the body against cell damage.

What to Avoid

Red and Processed Meat

Some studies seem to have found a connection between beef, pork, cold cuts, hotdogs, and lamb and certain types of cancers.

Carcinogens are believed to be created when these meats are cooked at high temperatures and processed with nitrates.

Alcohol

The risk of developing breast, colon, mouth, esophagus, and throat cancers are higher for people who consume alcoholic beverages in excess.

Alcohol has been specifically linked to breast cancer.

Sugar

Studies have shown that people who consume excessive amounts of sugar are more likely to develop mammary gland tumors. These tumors spread quickly. [R]

There are many ways in which sugar is not good for your body, but one of the main concerns is the risk of cells turning cancerous when the body burns sugar rather than fat.

Trans Fats

Not all fats are bad, but trans fats have been associated with breast cancer. Trans fats are found in processed foods. [R]

Some of these are fried foods, crackers, pastries, donuts, and packaged cookies.

Basil (Ocimum basilicum) Herb Profile

Basil can be used in a variety of creative ways in order to make use of its unique health benefits. With a Latin name of Ocimum basilicum, basil has been in use medicinally for ages.

The herb is said to have great healing power, and it is easy to grow indoors. It is as easy to use as it is to grow. Basil is believed to be one of the most important medicinal herbs.

It is simple to use. An aromatic herb belonging to the mint family, basil adds flavor to a variety of recipes.

The parts used are mainly the leaves and the flowering tops, though the seeds have been popular in Asian cuisine in the past.

Ocimum basilicum itself, when fresh, can be kept for limited amounts of time in the fridge as long as it is in a plastic bag.

To freeze it, blanching in boiling water is first needed. Neither method of preservation would do significant damage to the health benefits.

The most common way to use basil is its fresh leaves at the end of cooking.

Adding it at the last minute is normal. This is because cooking the herb results in a different, more bitter flavor than the known flavor that comes with the raw leaves.

Basil Health Benefits

Since Ocimum basilicum is one of the most important medicinal herbs, it has numerous benefits.

These benefits extend into various areas of your health. The following are some of the benefits of using basil. [R]

1. Great for Brain Function

With relevant problems such as cognitive decline affecting millions, especially the elderly, having an option to counter it is a definite help.

Studies have shown that by incorporating this herb into your daily diet, your brain function will increase. Preventing cognitive decline and degradation is one of the helpful side effects of the basil herb. [R]

It is such an easy herb to add to any meal, that it can easily take the place of its pharmaceutical equivalents. The healing properties contained inside of basil are what help it give a person the necessary preventative measures.

Mental reflexes are particularly important when it comes to eating certain foods to balance them.

Manganese, which is present in fair amounts in basil leaves, increases the capacity of sending electronic transmitter activity from the body to the brain.

The minerals such as manganese are what promote good mental reflexes. In addition, elements such as copper, which are found in the herb, can have great effects.

Copper, in the quantities found in basil leaves, help to stimulate the mind. It is said that your diet is just as important as performing mental exercises.

Adding basil to your daily diet, which is possible due to its versatility, greatly enhances the functionality of the brain.

Another element found in the basil herb is Glycosylceramides metabolism. This has a direct link to the reflexes that the brain needs to function properly.

These Glycosylceramides can actually serve to act as a sort of preventative measure—a protective shield—that surrounds the brain.

This means that not only will the minerals and nutrients inside of Ocimum basilicum actually prevent the effects of mental deterioration, but it has things set in place that will help protect the mind from anything already hurting it.

2. Natural Aphrodisiac

The aroma alone of basil has shown to be enough to increase both libido and arousal. This is due to the immediate increase in blood flow, energy levels, and the reduction of inflammation. [R]

3. Protects Against Diabetes Development

Basil reduces blood glucose level and inflammation which protects against the development of diabetes. Diabetes patients are at a higher risk of developing high cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

Basil oil can lower these levels which present a more ideal situation for diabetics and those with other metabolic issues. [R]

4. Aids Metabolism

The large quantity of Manganese found in basil helps the body release the enzymes it needs to benefit the metabolization of amino acids and carbohydrates.

This Manganese also helps the body to metabolize any of the vitamins that are related to glucose. [R]

5. Improves Digestion

Ocimum basilicum improves digestion by balancing acid and restoring the body’s normal PH level.

Healthy bacteria in the gut can be maintained by basil while harmful bacteria are decreased. Bloating, water retention, cramping, and acid reflux are reduced.

Basil also rids the body of harmful stomach worms and parasites. [R]

6. Regulates Blood Sugar

Balancing the glucose level is key to better health. Basil can help you achieve that goal.

Using basil as a seasoning for your food, drinking the tea, or using the oil in your water can regulate your blood sugar levels. [R]

7. Relieves Headaches

Since basil has analgesic and muscle relaxing properties, it can relieve a tension headache. [R]

A tablespoon of dried basil leaves, a handful of fresh leaves, or oil put in three cups of boiling water can bring quick relief. You can also massage a few drops of essential oil into your temples.

8. Antioxidants that Help Fight Disease

One of the herb’s greatest feats is its ability to harness its antioxidants and fight off disease in the human body. [R]

At the same time that the minerals within it protect a person’s DNA structure and cells, it can actually help fight most of the free radical damage. This is due to the two flavonoid antioxidants held by the herb.

Orientin and vicinage, both water-soluble, serve to help prevent any harm directed to the white blood cells of the body. The white blood cells are key for preventing illnesses through the immune system.

The antioxidants help protect the body from sickness, as well as maintaining the cellular structures containing DNA.

Chromosomes are not altered by the antioxidant properties in basil which is important for the prevention of cancer. Toxins in food, radiation, and pollution can cause oxidative stress. Basil alleviates these problems. [R]

9. Thwarts the Growth of Cancerous Cells

Many of the aforementioned antioxidants that can be found in basil serve to keep any of the body’s chromosomes from being altered by outside forces.

It is these alterations that promote cell mutations that ultimately result in an increase of cancerous cells.

Repetitive mutations are what cause cancer, and so basil can prevent any of the oxidative stress that occurs within the cells in each bodily system.

This means that the toxins found in the body will be flushed out by the antioxidants in this herb, and cancerous cells can be slowed down. [R]

10. Antimicrobial

Basil contains microbial properties that effectively fight viruses. This will give you added protection against yeast and mold along with protection from skin infections and candida.

Basil essential oils protect you from what is viral as well as bacterial. [R][R]

11. Anti-Aging

It can also slow the effects of aging through its capacity of fighting off oxidative stress. It is the free radical damage to the skin that can make a person feel and look older.

The antioxidants found in basil help combat this and act as a sort of preventative measure.

12. Maintains Bone Health

Women tend to lose bone density as they age which leads to osteoporosis leading to bone injuries and other physical conditions.

Basil is a great source of Vitamin K, which helps absorb the calcium needed to maintain bone health. [R]

13. Anti-inflammatory

Due to its excessive amounts of essential oils, basil is great for combatting inflammation.

Eugenol, Linalool, and citronellol are all essential oils that inhibit enzymes while helping to stop the spread of inflammation that is the cause of diseases like rheumatoid arthritis. [R]

They also have the capacity to target swelling directly and can help soothe it.

14. Antibacterial

Basil provides protection against harmful bacteria. Studies have shown that its extract inhibits the resistant strains of bacteria.

In a case study, the oil was used against a strain of E-coli. Basil was effective against this strain of bacteria. [R]

15. Helps to Combat Stress

The basil herb is known to contain certain compounds, including adaptogens. It is these compounds that serve to help the physical and emotional stress on the body lessen. [R]

Balance is a large part of what these adaptogens found in basil leaves serve to keep. This balanced functionality is meant to be kept even during the most stressful of situations, such as test-taking or a doctor’s appointment.

Hormone levels balance themselves out through the aid of the adaptogens, and so basil is a great herb to help fight any physical or mental stress.

16. Manages Arthritis

Basil contains beta-caryophyllene which are anti-inflammatory chemicals that soothe burning sensations in the joints. Effective pain management for inflammatory issues is possible with this herb. [R]

17. Manages Epilepsy

The extract from basil has been known to reduce brain spasmodic activity. Eugenol in basil leaves benefits the nervous system. Both factors lead to the effective management of epilepsy.

18. Post Menstrual Syndrome

Many women experience painful periods. Cramps, depression, and fatigue can seem merciless at times.

Basil contains manganese that relieves the symptoms of post menstrual syndrome by balancing the hormones, thereby, relieving stress and fatigue. [R]

19. Healthy Eyes

Basil contains beta-carotene, an essential compound that prevents muscle deterioration. It also contains Vitamin A and Ascorbic Acid which is said to cure dry eye and Stargardt’s Disease.  [R]

20. Fights Depression

By positively impacting the brain function in the adrenal cortex, depression is directly targeted. This means that the compounds within the basil help to fight off depression.

21. Supports Liver Function

When the liver is not functioning properly, a great amount of toxins builds up in the body.

The production of detoxifying enzymes caused by the nutrients in basil promotes a reduction of fat buildup in the liver, meaning that there would be less risk for disease.

Detoxifying enzymes help the liver to do its job properly, keeping it healthy. [R]

22. Cardiovascular Health

The anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties in basil relax the muscles that control blood vessel function to contract and relax. Healthy blood pressure is promoted. Inflammation that causes heart disease is reduced.

Basil prevents dangerous platelet aggregation which is the clumping together of blood platelets that could form a clot. When a clot forms in the arteries, cardiac arrest is the most likely result.

23. Eases Congestion

Breathing in steam has been a proven way to reduce congestion. Adding this potent herb to the steaming water can enhance the effects of decongestion.

Basil has natural antihistamine and analgesic properties that will have you feeling better quickly.

24. Lowers Blood Pressure

Many people have high blood pressure due to poor diet and lack of exercise. Basil has been proven to lower blood pressure for a brief period. [R]

You can drink basil tea, or add a few drops of the oil to your water.

25. Source of Energy

Copper can be found in basil. Because copper is a vital producer of adenosine triphosphate, the effects of exhaustion and fatigue are eliminated.

Using the herb in smoothies is said to be a great way to maintain high energy levels.

How to Use

A variety of ways to use basil are available. It can be used to season food, or, it can be used as a health supplement. The following are ways you can use basil.

1. Herbal Tea Infusion

The best way to make basil tea is either from the dried herb or from the leaf. To prepare it from the dried herb, the task is essentially just to pick what to put with the basil into a teabag. Little to no preparation is required.

To make a tea from fresh leaves, which may allow for more minerals than the pre-dried alternative, the process is simple. First, the basil leaves should be selected to find the freshest ones possible.

The plant and cuttings should be kept at room temperature, with the stems and roots evenly moist for storage. Storing fresh flowers should be the mindset when thinking about basil leaves.

Basically, the desire is to cut the leaves as finely as possible, for the flavor and nutrients to draw out quickly. Snipping them with scissors away from the plant is a good idea.

The typical ratio for a pot of tea would be 2 tablespoons of chopped basil for every 1 cup of boiling water.

The chopped basil should be put at the bottom of the teapot with the boiling water being slowly poured over it. The liquid should be covered with a lid.

For the most efficient vitamin, mineral, and taste output, a steeping time of 7-10 minutes is generally recommended. These pieces can be a great combination when used with lemon zest, turmeric, or marshmallow root.

The health benefits in these other three components balance out perfectly with the ones not found in basil. They also complement the taste.

2. Basil Essential Oil

Your own essential oil can be made from a homegrown plant in which you can reap many health benefits.

Basil leaves can be infused into a carrier oil such as olive or jojoba for three to six weeks.

Once the essential oil is ready for use, you can apply to the oil to insect bites, rub into sore muscles, or give a massage.

3. Herbal Butter

Like other herbs, basil can be used in butter as a delicious addition to your grilled meats, bread, potatoes, or pasta. Making your own organic butter can cut the cost in your food budget.

Combine garlic and some basil leaves in a good processor. Pulse until finely chopped.

Add in some lemon juice and a little salt. Place some butter into the mixture and process until smooth.

4. Vinegar or Oil Infusions

By creating a vinegar or oil infusion, the herb can be used well for its nutrients. To the fullest extent, its health benefits will be drawn out of the herb.

A vinegar or oil infusion is one of the easiest and most efficient ways to store excess leaves. The creation of a basil vinegar can be done without any fancy equipment.

It also has been known to help with the ability to incorporate the power food into any meal.

Basil vinegar can be used in recipes requiring the use of vinegar. The oil can be used for a variety of recipes including vegetables and bread.

5. Salad and Sandwiches

Basil’s leafy nature as an ingredient makes it a perfect addition to any salad. From a basil salad to an additive in a Caesar or Greek salad, the leaf is versatile.

The numerous health benefits contained within the basil leaf — including a variety of minerals — make it healthy. It is a light, fresh, and tasty leaf, which makes it essential to the fridge of a health guru.

The fresh leaves are wonderful chopped up with lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, and other salad ingredients. It can also be added to any cheeses that you plan to use with your salads.

Sandwiches can also have the added flavor of basil. The herb can be used on pita bread, flatbread, and wraps. Adding some basil to your sandwich meats is not a bad idea either.

6. Desserts and Drinks

Basil’s peppery flavor can work in sweet dishes. Strawberry basil shortcakes, basil ice cream, or basil sorbet are a few dishes you can use. Two other recipes you can use are strawberry galette and mint basil syrup.

A different flavor can be added to your cocktails with basil. Strawberry and basil margarita, basil and lime vodka cooler, and cucumber and basil vodka are just a few of the drinks you can prepare with this herb.

7. As an Added Spice

Perhaps one of its most famous uses, basil is the perfect natural additive to replace a fattening spice component.

For ages, it has been used with pesto sauce to create the unique and scrumptious taste that is pasta with pesto sauce.

Ocimum basilicum as an herb can be added to a variety of different meals — from sauces to dips to omelets — to help add a touch of flavor.

Basil is usually added at the very end of the cooking sequence. This is because of the way that it loses some of its flavor potency as soon as it gets cooked too long or heated up.

Adding this spice to every-day recipes such as game-day snacks is one of the best ways to ensure that you get your daily dose of nutrients.

The mineral, vitamin, and electrolyte content make it a superfood. Even ingesting it in such small portions as a spice in a lunch or supper dish means that your health benefit intake will be increased.

It is one way to be sure that you are gaining your necessary nutrients naturally, without the need for medicinal supplements.

8. To Flavor Carbs

Another great and known way to get your daily dose of basil is to cook it into your foods such as bread or pasta. Not to use it as a spice or topping or garnish, but to bake it into your meal.

While it is true that some of the potency of the flavor may be cooked out, that is not usually too much of a problem.

When cooked, Ocimum basilicum tends to grow a slightly more bitter taste. This complements perfectly the soft and sweet taste of the bread or pasta and actually reverts most of the taste to normal.

Any lost nutrients are sucked up by the ingredients in the carbohydrate formula, meaning that an extra kick of nutrients is granted.

This is an easy way to get children to eat the leafy vegetable. It also allows them to get the minerals, vitamins, and natural chemical compounds that go along with it.

9. Dressings and Marinades

Fresh basil can be added to salad dressings or marinade sauces for extra flavor.

Available in most supermarkets, fresh basil makes a tasty addition to your salad dressings, especially if you are tired of the same dressings or sauces.

10. Natural Body Deodorizer

Toxic chemicals are in many deodorants that you purchase in various stores. If you are looking for a more natural alternative to avoiding displeasing body odor, basil oil can be used as a deodorizer.

11. Added to Bath

Basil oil or leaves can be added to your bath. Relieving anxiety is one of the benefits that come from using the herb. A nice relaxing bath will be just what you need.

Adding Epsom or Himalayan Pink Salt to the bath is a great idea. The antiseptic properties of Ocimum basilicum will keep your skin free from acne and other infections.

Side Effects/ Caution

Like any other herb, precautions should be taken concerning the use of basil. Certain medications could cause interactions with basil, and some people might have allergies to basil.

The following are some precautions you should take.

1. Prolonged Use May Increase Risk of Liver Cancer

Basil is a relatively safe herb as far as most go. It is safe when ingested, as food or as medicine, unless the medicine is used over extended periods of time.

The herb contains estragole, which means that prolonged use in medicinal forms may increase the risk of liver cancer. [R]

2. Pregnant Women/Breastfeeding Mothers/Children

Basil is most likely safe in food amounts for pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, and children. Larger medicinal amounts could be unsafe.

Ocimum basilicum has been known to cause liver cancer in mice because it has a chemical compound called estragole.

3. Bleeding Disorders and Surgery

The extracts and oils can slow blood clotting and increase bleeding. People with bleeding disorders should not use basil.

If you have a scheduled surgery, you should stop taking basil at least two weeks before your procedure. Inform your doctor that you are taking basil if you are having surgery.

4. Low Blood Pressure

The extracts from the basil plant have the capacity to lower blood pressure. [R]

It would be wise for those with low blood pressure to be careful when ingesting copious amounts of basil, especially when combined with other foods.

As always, large amounts of any one food item has the capacity to do damage. However, this herb is generally safe when ingested in moderate and sparing amounts.

5. Drug Interaction

Some evidence exists that indicates drug interactions with basil. People who take medication for diabetes, high blood pressure, or cholesterol should avoid using basil.

Where to Buy?

Basil, for the most part, can be found year-round in any supermarket or grocery store. It can be found either in its leaf form, in pre-made tea packages, in its dried bits form, or its ground herb form.

Even with its seasonal sprouting, there is almost always an abundance of the product, making its addition to a daily diet easy.

If you wish to order online, Amazon and The Growers Exchange have the dried herb, supplements, and tea available.

Oregano (Origanum vulgare) Herb Profile

Oregano or oreganos as some call it, is a perennial herb that has many benefits. The plant is approximately 50 cm tall, and its purple leaves are 2 to 3 cm long. Its scientific name is Origanum vulgare.

For thousands of years, oregano has been proven valuable in both medicinal treatment and culinary use.

It is native to the Mediterranean area, and it is closely related to mint. Its genus is in the same family as mentha.

The part of the plant that is used most is the leaves. Oregano is unusual because it has a better flavor and aroma when it is dried rather than when the leaves are fresh.

Its unique and pleasant smell is from carvacrol, ocimene, pinene, limonene, caryophyllene, and thymol.

Throughout the years, oregano has developed a popular following. From Australia to Egypt, it serves as an effective treatment for many ailments as it contains antibacterial and antioxidant properties.

Origanum vulgare has many potent ingredients which have been deeply studied. Since it is so potent, it must always be diluted.

This herb is used to flavor many foods such as pizza, vegetables, soups, salads, pasta, and sauces.

Oregano Health Benefits

Listed below are a variety of health benefits that come from oregano.

1. Antibacterial Properties

Due to thymol and carvacrol, Origanum vulgare compounds can defend the immune system against harmful bacteria. Some of the bacteria include that which affects the gut, the skin, and other areas of the body.

Since oregano is a slightly stimulating agent, it can increase white blood cell production and speed up the metabolism. This results in a more rapid recovery from various illnesses. [R]

Adding oregano to your diet or using it as an essential oil can protect and maintain heart health. [R]

4. Digestion Aid

Packed with fiber, oregano can have a positive impact on your digestive system. Fiber in your diet is vital to a healthy digestive system.

Peristaltic motion is stimulated by fiber, and gut health is increased and maintain causing the food you eat to give you more benefits. [R]

Protecting against intestinal parasites and bloating, your digestive health is further boosted with the use of oregano with its fiber qualities.

Diarrhea and constipation are prevented which balances the digestive system.

In addition to these benefits, oregano is a preventative treatment for stomach flu since it contains properties that boost your immunity. [R]

5. Improves Bone Health

Manganese, iron, and calcium are needed in our bodies, and as we get older, we tend to lose certain levels of these minerals. The negative result of this is that our bones can become weaker.

Oregano has significant amounts of manganese, iron, and calcium. Having it in our diet can prevent osteoporosis which is one of the effects of losing minerals as you age. [R]

6. Rids the Body of Toxins

In addition to being rich in manganese, iron, and calcium, oregano is rich in Vitamin K. These vitamins and minerals are essential to detoxifying the body.

Origanum vulgare enhances liver function and speeds up the process of eliminating toxins. One teaspoon can give you up to 8% of the Vitamin K you need in one day. [R]

7. Protection from Cancer

Medical research has suggested that oregano demonstrates anti-cancer activity. Some scientists have stated that the Origanum majorana can slow and prevent the progression of breast cancer.

Indian physicians found oregano to be effective against colorectal cancer. Other cancers that oregano has been effective against are leukemia and brain cancer. [R][R]

The herb has been proven to have anti-mutagenic effects. Genetic material is altered through a mutagen, such as DNA, which leads to cancer.

Oregano suppresses the mutagens. Carvacrol, which is in oregano, is said to help protect delicate tissue, such as kidney tissue, from toxicity. [R]

8. Manage Type 2 Diabetes

Origanum vulgare contains compounds that can help manage type 2 diabetes. Some studies have indicated that the management of type 2 diabetes through oregano has been as effective as medication.

One teaspoon of aloe vera gel along with 2 to 3 drops of oregano should be combined and applied to problem areas with a cotton ball. Avoid areas where the skin is broken. [R]

11. Oral Health

Bacteria, bad breath, plaque, toothaches, and even periodontal disease can be alleviated through oregano. One drop of oregano should be added to your toothpaste.

Another option is to combine 1 to 2 drops of oregano with 1 tablespoon of coconut oil, then, swish the contents in your mouth.

How to Use

There are numerous ways to prepare oregano for use to take advantage of the variety of health benefits it offers.

Oregano can be applied to various areas of the body to treat certain types of infection. It can also be mixed with water and coconut oil to be used as a natural antibiotic.

For sinus infections, it can be diluted in water to drink. Origanum vulgare can be used as a spice and applied to various foods and eaten.

The following are some detailed preparations and uses for this medicinal herb.

1. Barbecued and Grilled Meats

Fresh or dried oregano can be applied directly to meats as they are being grilled or barbecued. Animal proteins can produce free radicals as they are being cooked.

Not only will oregano buffer these negative effects, but it will also improve the flavor of the meat.

When using oregano with meats, it is important to understand the difference between fresh and dried. The type of oregano you use on your meats will depend upon the flavor you prefer.

The flavor of most herbs intensifies as they are dried. When using oregano, the flavor is more bitter when it is dry.

The fresh leaves have a less bitter flavor. If you use too much of the dried oregano, you could have a bitter flavor when eating your grilled meats.

Keep in mind that other herbs or spices that you add can make flavor alterations as well.

2. Salads

Both fresh and dried can be used in various salads. It is recommended that salt and pepper be put with one teaspoon of dried oregano in some salads.

Dried oregano works well with tomatoes and various types of cheeses along with olive oil.

If fresh oregano is being used in a salad, it is recommended that plenty of green vegetables be used as well as salt and pepper.

Olives and olive oil work well with fresh oregano too. If you love meat in your salad, grilled chicken will taste great with the fresh herb.

3. Soups, Stews, and Bone Broths

Dried or fresh oregano can be used in soups, stews, and bone broth. Most herbs should be added at the beginning of the cooking process, but the fresh herb should be added toward the end.

Adding it at this point will prevent the leaves from being overly cooked. Dried oregano can be added earlier in during the process.

4. Essential Oil for Ear, Nose and Throat Infections

When using oregano essential oil in water, place 1 to 3 small drops in your water.

Drinking the right amount of the essential oil in our water can serve as prevention or therapy for respiratory infections and sore throats.

If you are using the essential oil for ear infections, place 1 to 3 drops in your hand and rub it around the outer region of the ear.

5. Essential Oil for Oral Health

When using oregano essential oil to maintain or improve oral health, place 1 to 2 drops of the oil along with a one-half teaspoon of coconut oil in your mouth. Rinse for several minutes before spitting.

Using the essential oil in this manner will decrease the likelihood of cavities and gingivitis. If you already have oral health issues, the use of the oil can improve your condition.

6. Household Cleaner

Many people are concerned about the use of chemical cleaners in their homes. The health of some people has been put at risk due to exposure to chemicals in household cleaner.

You will be relieved to know that oreganos essential oil can be safely combined with water and white vinegar, or, water and hydrogen peroxide to be used for cleaning.

7. Burns, Wounds, Acne, and Warts

For a disinfectant and first aid treatment for burns and wounds, apply a drop of oregano oil with coconut oil, or another carrier oil to the affected area.

Acne and warts can be treated by dipping a Q-tip in oregano oil and applying the Q-tip directly to the acne or warts.

Applying the oil in this manner will reduce both bacteria and inflammation.

8. Hand and Laundry Sanitizer

Many people prefer a more natural method of hand sanitation. Often, good bacteria will be removed with some hand sanitizers.

Ten drops of oregano oil combined with two tablespoons of coconut oil will provide a natural sanitizer for you to rub on your hands.

Adding a few drops of the oil to your clothes while they are in the process of being washed will provide a pleasing aroma to your clothes.

Caution/Side Effects

Since oregano is extremely potent, it is important to be aware of the necessary precautions you should take before use.

1. Allergies/Pregnancy/Breastfeeding

People who are allergic to plants in the Lamiaceae family should not use oregano. A mild to severe reaction could result.

Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should consult a physician before using. Insufficient research is available concerning pregnant and breastfeeding women and the use of Origanum vulgare. [R]

2. Surgery and Bleeding Disorders

If you are facing any type of surgery, or, you have a bleeding disorder, use oreganos cautiously. Bleeding can be increased in these cases.

If you plan on having surgery, this herb should not be used at least two weeks before your procedure.

Inform your doctor that you have been using oreganos to avoid any complications.

3. Drug Interactions

Lithium has been known to interact with this herb. Sometimes, the herb can have the same effects as a diuretic.

The way your body rids itself of lithium can be hindered with the use of oregano resulting in serious side effects.

If you take lithium, it is highly recommended that you consult a physician before using it. It is possible that your lithium dose might need to be changed.

Where to Buy

Oregano in its various forms is not difficult to find. Most supermarkets and health food stores have both fresh and dried forms. The essential oil can be purchased in health food stores as well.

Online stores such as Amazon and Puritan’s Pride carry oregano in dry form and essential oil.

9 Ear Infection Remedies That Work

Ear infection remedies is one of the most common search terms these days. An ear infection is more often than not caused by either a virus or a bacterial infection. Either of those two things will affect the middle ear, which is the spot directly behind the eardrum.

The middle ear contains the majority of the tiny bones of the ear. This makes it a painful and irritating place for an infection of the sort.

While ear infections can be found in adults, children are more likely to experience one. Small children, in particular, are especially prone to ear infections.

Ear infections can occur at any section of the ear — the inner, outer, or middle.

With such, it is important to note that middle ear infections are the most common, and are generally what people and doctors mean when they say “ear infection.”

What Causes an Ear Infection?

The buildup of fluids in this middle ear is the reason for the pain. The fluids cause inflammation, which brings about a sharp feeling of pain in the middle ear. This can be hard for a young child to cope with.

Managing the pain and soothing the symptoms are usually the only way to treat an ear infection. This is because they usually go away and heal on their own — despite how long it might seem.

A strong immune system can, for the most part, fight off the infection.

Ear Infection Symptoms

An ear infection usually feels like it is inside your ear, right at the eardrum; however, it is directly behind the eardrum. It can vary from a sharp pain to a dull throb and will often cause surrounding areas pain.

These areas include the sinuses, head, eye, and throat. Usually, these are all on one side of the face. This is due to, as will be mentioned, nerve problems due to the inflammation of the ear.

In most cases, as soon as the infection sets in, the symptoms hit immediately. If left untreated, the infection should eventually go away on its own, it will just be a time filled with discomfort.

If symptoms persist for more than a few days, seeing a doctor is the recommended course of action rather than sticking to at-home ear infection remedies.

1. Ear Pain

Perhaps the most obvious symptom that comes with an ear infection is pain. This is particularly hard for children. The pain generally worsens when lying down, so they may find it difficult to sleep it off.

It is recommended to prop them up on some pillows so that they are not lying flat. The pain should then lessen and allow them to get some relief through sleep.

While it is the most common symptom, it is not one that should be overlooked.

As previously stated, if ear pains persist for more than a few days, a doctor or health care practitioner should be consulted.

2. Difficulty Sleeping

As previously mentioned, the sufferer will likely experience increased ear pain when lying in a horizontal position. This makes it very difficult for a person to get the rest they need so that their immune system can fight off the infection.

Often, the patient will experience a loud beat as their ear throbs. The pain may also become sharper than normal. Lying at a minimum of a 40-degree angle is thus recommended.

3. A Decrease in Hearing Ability

As is a natural progression from the pain, the sufferer may experience a temporary and slight loss of hearing in the affected ear. An earache from where the pain is stemming from often feels like the ear is vibrating.

This can have an effect on outside noises entering the ear. In addition, the way in which the infection starts can also be a sign of a potential decrease in hearing ability.

The inflammation can act as a buffer between the ear and the outside world. This would mean that any sound waves entering into the middle ear could be changed.

The buildup of fluids inside the ear cavity could also be the reason for the, once again, temporary hearing deficiency. [R]

4. Fever

The ear infection, just like any other infection, has the capacity to cause a fever. This means an internal body temperature of 38°C (100°F) or higher.

This symptom is significantly more common in children than it would be in adults. This is due to the weakened state of the child in comparison to a fully grown adult.

Fevers from earaches should be fought in a regular way. This includes breaking it with sweat or taking usual fever remedies.

5. Loss of Balance

Especially prevalent in children, a loss of balance could be seen as a result of the ear infection. The pain could be causing this. It can be disorienting, especially when the infection is only on one side of the head.

The thumping sound residing in the ear may be a cause. The disorientation could also be as a result of the slight loss of hearing.

This would be disorienting for anyone, let alone a child who falls over at the best of times.

6. Acting More Irritable than Usual

This symptom is mostly seen in young children who are inexperienced with pain and find themselves unable to cope.

While an ear infection is more often than not harmless, it can be hard for a child to deal with. They may cry and scream and be more irritable than usual. Patience is advised since their ear is in pain.

Lying down for a nap is often hard and should not be enforced unless using the propped-up position described earlier. Horizontal lying causes even more pain, and so it is not always the child’s fault when they are being moody.

The child will eventually return to normal as the infection goes away and the internal and painful swelling goes down.

How to Treat Ear Infection Naturally

If a high and prolonged fever occurs, a doctor is always the best course of action. However, some antibiotics and meds such as Tylenol could actually serve to prolong the healing process.

It is for this reason that natural ear pain remedies are a good idea to look into, especially in irritated children.

1. Breastfeed Children Through Infancy

Except in cases where it can’t be helped, babies should be breastfed for at least 6 months after birth.

Breast milk is the most effective among ear pain remedies for babies as it will give them the antibodies they need to be able to properly fight off infections (e.g. ear, respiratory, and gastrointestinal). [R]

Breastfeeding helps to get a baby’s digestive system working smoothly and provides him his first — and easiest — immunization.

Infants who are not breastfed are starved of the right nutritional requirements and are much more likely to get sick. [R]

2. Neem Oil

While there are many ear infection remedies, neem Oil can help reduce inflammation, relieve pain, and kill the bacteria that cause most types of earaches. [R]

Q-tips are no longer recommend as being safe to be put inside your ear. Hence, wrap a piece of tissue around a matchstick (or similar), dip it in the neem oil and wiggle it inside your ear.

The healing process should start from there on.

3. Ice Pack

Another common one among ear pain remedies, holding an ice pack up to the ear may work to relieve the symptoms. It does so by numbing the pain and speeding up the healing process by reducing inflammation.

The cold, placed close to the infection, can also help combat the swelling.

4. Crushed Raw Garlic

Recent studies by Washington State University have shown the garlic can actually work 100 times better than popular antibiotics or commercial ear infection remedies. This is at fighting infection and speeding up the healing process. [R]

Killing bacterial strains is one of garlic’s main properties, and so ingesting raw garlic is one of the best ways to fight an ear infection.

Note that a whole clove must be chopped or crushed in order to combine alliin and alliinase to form allicin. Allicin has the healing properties associated with garlic. [R]

5. Massage with Essential Oils

Essential oils are considered ear infection remedies becuase they can be massaged to promote drainage in the ear as well as to help improve circulation in the blood vessels.

It is recommended to massage your oil of choice (thyme, peppermint, rosemary, oregano, etc.) around the ear and surrounding areas such as the neck and face.

Facilitating circulation in the blood flow could help speed up the healing process. Proper drainage of the fluids could result in temporary pain relief.

6. Elderberry Syrup or Tea

A study by the US National Library of Medicine shows that Elderberry syrup or tea could help with the treatment of ear infections. [R]

Elderberry has components that combat infections. It could also help in the prevention of inflammation, and is a great way to naturally care for the immune system.

7. Warmth

In contrast to cold, warmth can also work to relieve some of the symptoms of an ear infection; thus, finding its place on the list of ear infection remedies.

It loosens up fluids and can help improve circulation in the ear. Either through a hot water pack or a sack of rice that has been cooked, applying heat to the ear may be beneficial.

If using a rice sack, the outside should be either wool or cotton to be more effective. Filling the sack with sea salt would be just as effective.

Placing the heated item on the ear that has been affected will help to relieve the pain.

8. Tea Tree Oil

Health professionals recognize tea tree oil as a suitable natural antibacterial. Warm 1-2 drops of tea tree oil and combine with a carrier oil such as warmed olive oil.

By applying this mixture into the ear and letting it sit for about 5 minutes, it could help fight an ear infection. [R] Repeat 1-2 times per day for three days.

9. Basil Leaf Juice

Do not put this inside the ear. By crushing basil leaves and extracting their juice, the herb can be beneficial in fighting an ear infection.

Applying it around the outside of the ear could help combat inflammation and swelling found in the ear.

What to Eat?

Bananas

The magnesium content found in bananas is high enough to make a significant difference in the health of a person’s ears. The function of the magnesium in the ears is to expand the blood vessels. [R]

This expansion can be good for hearing and preventing hearing loss. What happens is that these expanded blood vessels promote better circulation.

With better circulation comes better hearing and overall ear health.

Fish

There are numerous health properties found in fish that can have a positive effect on the ears. Trout, salmon, and tuna are all examples of fish with health benefits such as omega-3.

The fatty acid of omega-3 can help with prevention against hearing loss. Studies have found that diets with regular omega-3 intake keep better hearing for longer.

The vitamin D also found in fish can help strengthen the bones in your ear, preventing hearing loss. It can also be a blockage against infection.

Dark Chocolate or Cocoa

The mineral zinc found in extremely dark chocolate is known to aid in a boost of the immune system. [R] In this way, it can help prevent an infection, especially one in the ear, where zinc tends to target.

Strawberries

The content of vitamin C found in organic strawberries is the perfect amount to help combat ear infections. It is often recommended by health practitioners to children when trying to overcome an earache.

Raspberries

Raspberries pass as natural ear infection remedies as they contain generous amounts of fiber, potassium, manganese, and folate. These are all known to work together in order to help the immune system fight or prevent infection.

What to Avoid?

Oily Foods

It is never a good idea to eat oily foods when dealing with an ear infection. The oils will cause ear wax to grow and build up.

This prevents aeration and could potentially cause swelling to grow. It is best to stick to fresh, healthy foods with lots of minerals to help lower the risk of pain.

High Salt Content

With an ear infection, it is best to avoid foods with high salt content. This is due to the way in which the salt affects the body.

High salt contents may result in a buildup of pressure where the fluids are stored in the inner ear. This pressure has been known to fluctuate, thus increasing symptoms of the ear infection.

Added Sugars

Sugary foods such as sweets or soft drinks may also have an adverse effect on the buildup of fluids inside the ear.

They may improve the balance of these fluids caused by the ear infection, increasing the length of time before the infection can heal.

Naturally sweet foods such as organic fruits or vegetables can provide the same sugary taste with less risk. They also can provide the nutrients needed to naturally combat the infection through a boost in the immune system.

Nuts

Nuts with a higher fat content have the ability to worsen an ear infection. This is not the case for everyone, but if eating nuts make your symptoms worse than this could be why. They may also trigger migraines.

Tyramine

Foods with a high quantity of Tyramine such as cheese and sausage can have an impact. They may also trigger migraines or worsen the ear infection.

Turmeric (Curcuma longa): An Ancient Healing Spice

A perennial native to South Asia, turmeric has been a staple in worldly cuisines for ages. Its Latin name is Curcuma longa, and it is the plant’s long orange root that produces the familiar yellow spice found in so many Indian dishes.

With its historical roots in Ayurvedic culture, turmeric root is one of the oldest known medicinal herbs.

Between its countless uses and numerous health properties, turmeric is one of those spices and foods that should be a staple in every household.

Its nutritional contents and versatility as food are just two of the reasons why. It is also popular because of its orange-yellow coloring and has been utilized for even beauty purposes.

Not only is the root good for the body nutritionally, but it can have some major benefits to the mind.

Curcuma longa has a unique chemical profile that allows it to be included in a variety of treatments for health issues ranging from cold and flu to circulation problems. [R]

The properties are good for health, sure, but are also what gives it its distinct flavor and undeniable appeal.

It is for those reasons that health gurus can testify that turmeric in all forms can help keep the body healthy and prevent diseases.

Turmeric Benefits

Used for centuries for its healing properties, turmeric root is thought to have many powerful benefits.

1. Full of Nutrients

Curcuma longa possesses numerous nutrients and factors beneficial to health. These are vitamins, minerals, amino acids, natural oils, and phytochemicals. [R]

The phytochemicals alone are what cause the amelioration of bodily functions. These include better functioning cell tissues, organs, and muscles. [R]

The compounds will also help prevent certain diseases due to their health properties that serve to boost the functions and pick up slack where vitamins and minerals may be lacking in the body.

Turmeric contains more than 300 components that are found naturally in the root.

These include, but are not limited to, vitamin C, calcium, fiber, beta-carotene, iron, flavonoids, zinc, niacin, and potassium.

2. Prevents and Treats Cancer

Laboratory studies have shown that curcumin found in Curcuma longa can target cancer cells and kill them. It has anti-cancer effects. [R]

Not only can it kill cancer cells, but the curcumin can actually be used as a preventative measure to stop more from growing. [R]

Lower rates of cancer have been found in countries where more turmeric is ingested on a daily basis.

3. Treats Arthritis and Supports Healthy Joints

Arthritis is a common inflammatory disorder characterized by painful swelling in the joints.

Various studies have shown that curcumin can help treat symptoms of arthritis by keeping the joints from getting swollen and inflamed. [R]

In some cases, curcumin was even more effective than prescription drugs when given to osteoarthritis and RA patients. [R]

4. Natural Anti-Inflammatory Agent

Turmeric contains an anti-inflammatory component called curcumin that helps regular the natural inflammation of the body. [R]

Inflammation is a constant problem in the body, either bringing pain or some form of swelling largely due to the foods that a person consumes.

By helping to prevent inflammation, turmeric can actually be a factor in preventing things like heart disease, obesity, and heart problems. [R] [R]

Turmeric fights inflammation at the molecular level. [R][R][R]

5. Fights off Bacteria

Curcuma longa contains anti-inflammatory and antibacterial components that are beneficial in fighting bacteria and viruses. [R][R]

It also allows for a boost in the immune system (your body’s natural defense against diseases).

The same unique blend of vitamins and nutrients in turmeric target specific areas of the body where the average Western diet is lacking.

Through this, a balance is restored and the capacity to fight off bacteria is heightened.

6. Boosts Stress Tolerance

Turmeric has shown progress through its antioxidants to lower oxidative stress in humans. It can also help to cure mental stress with the way in which its many nutrients work together. [R]

Particularly when used as a tea, the turmeric root can have a calming effect on the brain. [R]

7. Aids Digestion

Turmeric can aid digestion and absorption in the body. Its nutrient formula can help open up passages for the nutrients of other foods to properly be absorbed into the body.

Its work as a detoxifier also helps this process. In addition, metabolism is helped by the influx of natural products found within turmeric’s chemical formula. [R]

Turmeric’s antibodies also provide the base for a way to quell nausea. When taken as a hot tea, the root is perfect for settling the stomach and helping the digestive process run smoothly. [R]

8. Remedy Acid Reflux

While it would be difficult to ingest enough turmeric in a single day to be able to properly treat acid reflux, it does help. [R][R]

Curcuma longa can play a key role in the way acid reflux is treated as curcumin is rapidly metabolized by the liver.

Even in small doses, ingesting turmeric for its extracted curcumin in order to help balance the pH level of your body will work.

There also exists a way to get the full recommended amount of this healing spice, and that lies in supplements.

Organic turmeric extract can be taken and used as a simple way to get the full daily medicinal dose.

9. Treats Hay Fever

Turmeric, in its spice form, has often been used as a medicinal ingredient to treat hay fever. The symptoms that this spice treats include a sore throat, congestion, runny nose, sneezing, wheezing and some headaches. [R]

Turmeric tea is often preferred for treating these symptoms due to its warmth and ability to retain a wholesome dosage.

This spice is excellent as a natural alternative to taking pharmaceutical drugs when hit with a cold or similar.

10. Fights Against Depression

The curcumin contained within turmeric has been tried and tested to help relieve the effects of depression. [R]

Those already taking anti-depressant drugs had seen a decrease in their symptoms when they added turmeric to their steady diet. [R]

11. Treats Stomach Ulcers

Research has shown that the chemical found in turmeric, curcumin, has the potential to treat stomach ulcers. It may be consumed in powdered form — taken 3-4 times daily for 6-8 weeks. [R]

However, it’s recommended that you consult with a health care practitioner before including that much turmeric in your diet.

There are certain groups of people that should not consume turmeric in large doses like that (see side effects/caution).

How to Use

When eating turmeric in its raw form, the curcumin is poorly absorbed into the bloodstream.

The reason this presents somewhat of a challenge for the body is that the chemical compound is not one it is used to.

  • Taking turmeric with black pepper, high in a compound called piperine, enhances curcumin absorption by up to 2000%. [R]
  • By eating Curcuma longa with healthy fats like coconut or avocado oil, it is more easily absorbed into the bloodstream. [R]
  • A study also shows that heating turmeric for up to 10 minutes increases the solubility of curcumin 12 folds, thereby enhancing its absorption by the body. [R]

Here are some ways of incorporating this healthy spice into your diet.

1. Making a Tea

One of the easiest and most effective ways to incorporate turmeric into your diet is through an herbal tea.

By crushing the root, adding other herbs of choice, and steeping the mixture into hot water, a tea can be made. Let it cool before adding a sweetener of choice.

It is effective due to the way that the root is still practically raw when ingested. This means that any and all nutrients will be absorbed to the fullest extent. [R]

In addition, the heat from the tea can help with other conditions as well. It can help aid digestion, not only for settling the stomach but since it will lessen the effects of bloating or gases.

Making a pot of turmeric tea can also be an excellent way to use the root’s anti-inflammatory assets. The heat and facilitated entry into the digestive system will serve to add a bit of a boost to the already-there soothing nature.

During cold and flu season, drinking turmeric tea infusion daily can help fight off infections that might attack the immune system.

Turmeric tea is easy to make, helps soothe the digestive process and any inflammatory problems.

2. As a Spice

Perhaps the most common way to use Curcuma longa is as a spice. It has been used this way for centuries and is often times the main form in which you’ll find turmeric.

Curries, sauces, soups, breads, salads or dips. Turmeric is a spice that can be used in just about anything. Since it does have such a versatile set of nutrients in it, ingesting turmeric in your weekly diet is a must.

It has such a savory taste that it can easily be incorporated into any dish. Not only is using the crushed root as a spice the easiest way to ingest turmeric, but it is one of the most effective.

This ancient healing spice has antibodies and antioxidants that work inside the body to relieve many ailments. [R]

3. As a Paste or Poultice

Turmeric powder combined with castor oil can be a big aid when used topically on the skin any place on the body, which can help with inflammation through the nutrients soaking into the body by way of the skin.

Besides, applying a paste of turmeric and castor oil has the potential to improve one’s complexion.

All of the nutrients soak into the skin and have the capacity to remedy wounds and clear blemishes, including any spots on the body where the sun may have caused damaged or where oil may be built up. [R]

Other methods of preparation:

  • A paste can be mode out of turmeric and manuka honey to remedy cuts and wounds and reduce scarring.
  • Combine aloe vera and turmeric powder to make a soothing paste for sun damaged skin and skin bruises.
  • Reduce inflammation and scaling by applying a turmeric mask or cream on psoriasis-affected skin.
  • Mix together turmeric powder with water and apply to psoriasis-affected skin as a nighttime treatment. Leave on for a couple of minutes before washing off.

It is always important to know which beauty products not to put on our face due to chemicals. The chemical build up in store-bought products can often be harmful to the skin and make it less resistant to the sun’s rays.

By making your own natural turmeric paste, you can avoid this. Doing it at home ensures that everything is natural and organic.

This means that you are able to oversee exactly what is going onto your skin, safe in the knowledge that it is doing far more good than harm.

Placing a poultice or a spread onto the skin can also be great to soothe it. With the nutrients found within turmeric put to work, it can be a great relaxer.

Heat coupled with the minerals and electrolytes can work to soothe a rash or fight off an infection. The antibodies that are present in curcumin are perfect for that.

Infection and inflammation can be easily remedied by using turmeric as the base for your beauty paste.

Side Effects/ Caution

1. Blood Thinning Effects

Since turmeric can be used as a natural blood thinner, it should not be taken if you are on medication that thins the blood. This can cause serious medical issues. [R]

Additionally, when too much is ingested daily alongside other medications/ingredients that have the same properties, problems may arise.

2. pH levels

Especially when combined with certain drugs, pH levels can go out of balance when turmeric is used as a complementary remedy.

As always, check your prescriptions to make sure that they are compatible with the nature of turmeric.

3. Gallbladder Issues

Turmeric may exacerbate gallbladder issues when taken too often or in large amounts.

4. Can Lower Blood Sugar Levels

Curcuma longa can lower blood sugar levels. Those with diabetes are not recommended to add turmeric to their daily diet. [R]

When eaten consistently or in large quantities, turmeric can cause a diabetic’s blood sugar level to drop too low. This can become life-threatening in extreme cases.

5. May Affect Iron Absorption

When taken in large amounts, turmeric may hinder iron absorption.

Where to Buy

Turmeric, like most spices nowadays, can be bought all year. The root may end up being seasonal, depending on your location.

For the most part, turmeric root can be found in local grocery stores or farmer’s market.

Treating Hypercalcemia (High Calcium Levels) Naturally

Hypercalcemia happens when blood concentration levels of calcium are too high for the human body to function properly.

High calcium levels will likely lead to a buildup of kidney stones. It can also weaken your bones and interfere with the proper functioning of the brain and heart.

It can be diagnosed by its unique combination of symptoms, as well as following some fairly uniform causes.

This is not always the case, and a health care practitioner should be consulted before starting any self-treatment.

Blood and urine tests are generally used by doctors to check the calcium level in the blood, as well as protein and other substances.

So, the first question is: Is there a supplement you can take to address Hypercalcemia? Yes – it’s called chasteberry (read more below):

Hypercalcemia Causes and Who it Affects

Hypercalcemia can affect anyone — young or old. An excess of vitamin D has been known to cause this.

Tuberculosis or kidney infections could also cause high calcium levels. Monitoring calcium levels after one of those diseases is recommended because of that risk.

Below are a few other common causes of this condition:

  • Hypercalcemia may be a result of the medication a person is taking, and can even be an early sign of cancer. It can have pretty severe symptoms such as stomach pains and frequent urination.
  • High blood calcium levels are many times caused by a small benign tumor in one of the parathyroid glands. This happens when the gland is overactive. If this is the case, an operation will likely be needed to remove the tumor. [R]
  • It can also be caused by ingesting too much vitamin D or certain drugs. It is important to note that if your blood calcium level is high but your vitamin D level is low, then a parathyroid tumor is the most likely answer. [R]
  • Some cancers like breast cancer, lung cancer, and blood cancers, can heighten the risk for hypercalcemia.

Depending on diet, there may also be ways to cut down heavy calcium intake in your daily life. This could help with risks and symptoms relating to Hypercalcemia.

Hypercalcemia Symptoms

It is important to consult your doctor if you suspect you may have hypercalcemia. He or she will be able to advise you on what steps to take especially in severe cases.

Below are some of the most common hypercalcemia symptoms. In other words, these are some of the things you will go through if high calcium goes untreated.

1. Thirst

Those suffering from hypercalcemia will often describe having what appears to be an unquenchable thirst. This is due to the way that bodily functions take more energy to accomplish, depleting liquid resources quicker. [R]

The excess calcium dehydrates the body. It is thus important to drink a lot of fluids when suffering from Hypercalcemia.

It is also important to be wary of urine output since it is likely that the calcium will have an effect on what is normal.

If there is a noticeable change in color, smell, or consistency that lasts beyond 3-4 days, consult a doctor for advice. Frequent urination is normal due to excessive water intake.

2. Indigestion

One of the less thought of symptoms of Hypercalcemia is problems with indigestion. Many cases of nausea have been reported in those suffering from the disorder.

An upset stomach, diarrhea, abdominal pains, and constipation have all been known to occur in the body. Often times, nausea will lead to vomiting.

The digestive system as a whole will have a more difficult time functioning due to the excess of calcium in the body. Everything will have to work twice as hard as it used to get the same result.

This constant wear brought on by overuse can cause some of these symptoms. They can also, like constipation and abdominal pains, be as a direct result of too much calcium.

3. Mental Health Issues

A patient’s mental state could also be affected by too much calcium found in their bloodstream.

Hypercalcemia patients have shown to be sufferers of a number of symptoms including lethargy, fatigue, and potentially even depression. [R]

The strain on a person’s organs would be one of the causes. The condition affects not just the kidneys and the stomach, but the brain as well.

High calcium content in the blood can have an effect on the functionality of the brain, producing hormones or instructions that cause tiredness or sadness.

4. Kidney Stones

Relating to the dehydration, the kidneys have to work overtime as they attempt to flush out the extra calcium that is trying to pass through. [R]

When the calcium is making it nearly impossible to keep hydrated due to the way it dries everything out, the kidneys suffer. They still attempt to do what they can to flush out toxins, but without fluids, it becomes near impossible to do.

The result is kidney stones. Kidney stones can be quite painful as they have to pass. That is why it is necessary to do as much as you can to make up for the fluids lost to calcium and drink water.

It is the only way to potentially prevent having to pass kidney stones.

5. Bone Pain

The thing about too much calcium is that it is the bones that release it. This could mean a potential calcium deficiency as far as the bones are concerned.

A lack of calcium in the bones would mean pain due to the abnormal activity. Being calcium deficient would also weaken them. This could also be the cause of surrounding muscle weakness.

6. High Blood Pressure

Blood pressure is frequently increased as soon as calcium levels begin to rise. This can be particularly dangerous for those already suffering from high blood pressure. [R]

It is important to be wary of how increased blood pressure could affect you, especially since it could cause a number of heart-related issues.

7. Heart Problems

In very rare, extreme cases, hypercalcemia can cause heart palpitations and other heart problems. Usually, these cases are linked to those with pre-existing conditions.

Rising calcium levels have the potential to harm the heart when the heart is already susceptible to issues.

Treating High Calcium Levels Naturally

Those with mild cases of hypercalcemia may have no need for medical treatment. Natural remedies are, therefore, acceptable until calcium levels reach extreme heights.

It is important to be a good judge of yourself to determine the severity of the symptoms.

1. Exercise, Exercise, Exercise

It is important to attempt to resume your regular amount of physical exercise when suffering from hypercalcemia.

While this may not be possible considering a person’s symptoms, exercise can be good for helping keep up brain functions.

It can aid as a counteractive measure to the fatigue and lethargy experienced by a patient.

2. Drink More Pure Water

For obvious reasons, being conscious of your water intake while diagnosed with hypercalcemia is a must. Being in a near constant state of dehydration is one of the most severe symptoms of the disorder.

A lack of water has an effect on the severity of the other symptoms. Not only that, but it will make it more difficult to flush excess calcium out of the body.

For those reasons, drinking more water than normal is necessary to help return you to health.

3. Avoid or Reduce the Intake of Phosphate

The parathyroid glands that are often responsible for Hypercalcemia use and absorbs phosphate. Phosphate can make overactive parathyroid glands worse. [R]

The glands will try to deal with and get rid of the phosphate as well as the excess calcium levels. This means that the healing process of hypercalcemia would be much longer than otherwise.

4. Reduce Vitamin D Intake

When considering hypercalcemia treatment, reducing your vitamin D intake is crucial when attempting to lessen the effects of the condition. Everything that vitamin D supports is counteractive due to the way in which it affects the body.

Its properties slow down the process of flushing calcium out of your system, and so it is essential to keep vitamin D levels low until the calcium gets flushed out.

5. Get a Normal Amount of Calcium

When you have been diagnosed with hypercalcemia, it important to reduce calcium intake. However, if you were to go from too much calcium to no calcium intake all at once, it would do more harm than good.

The fluctuation would be harmful as the blood would call for the bones to release even more calcium.

This would further damage the bones, make the blood concentration level of calcium even higher, and slow the healing process.

6. Chaste Tree Tea or Supplement

Taking chaste tree supplement or drinking the tea can be beneficial to the healing of the symptoms when dealing with Hypercalcemia.

Chaste Tree is known to help regulate the parathyroid gland. This means that it promotes the absorption and flushing out of the excess calcium in the body caused by the gland. [R]

7. Maintain Good Health (Drop Bad Habits)

By, at least temporarily, stopping bad habits such as smoking, drugs, and a lack of exercise can be crucial. Hypercalcemia may not be common, but it can be serious.

Maintaining your health to the best of your ability is one of the most important things that you can do to treat the symptoms of hypercalcemia.

High calcium levels is usually linked to your lifestyle, with initial diagnosis stemming from what you do.

Overactive parathyroid glands can be caused by what you eat or how much you are taking care of yourself.

That means that just by being more conscious of your health, you can help relieve some of the severity of the symptoms.

What to Eat?

The most important thing to keep in mind when eating high-calcium foods is the calcium content.

Low-calcium foods are essential to even have a hope in overcoming the disorder.

This means that looking for foods that are lacking or low in this element is really the only thing that a person can do. At least, when hoping to solve the issue through their diet.

1. Fish

It is important to ensure that you are eating a fish with low calcium levels such as cod or tuna. They have all the benefits of a healthy meal while not making your hypercalcemia worse.

Fish is a good option with few calories to allow for a healthy, tasty meal while limiting calcium intake.

2. Beans

Beans can be a great source of protein and nutrients to add to your diet. They are almost exclusively low in calcium content.

3. Legumes and Grains

The phytic content in such foods as legumes and grains help prevent some calcium absorption in the body. This will help keep excess calcium out of your system.

Legumes and grains are also great staples to add to any diet. Your body would still be able to get maintain its nutritious meal plan.

4. Low-Calcium Fruits

Many fruits, including papaya, kiwis, oranges, and raspberries are high in nutrients but low in calcium.

Eating such fruits is a great way to balance your diet while maintaining a lack of calcium in your meals.

5. Low-Calcium Foods

So many of the foods that we eat on an everyday basis have high calcium levels. This is no good for those who are having problems with high calcium in blood.

Ingestion of leafy greens such as spinach alongside dairy should be minimized if not taken out of the diet entirely.

Low-calcium foods that you can use as replacement include:

  • Black beans
  • Dark chocolate
  • Bok Choy (raw)
  • Lima beans
  • Dandelion greens (raw)

  • Corn
  • Brown rice
  • White Beans
  • Kale (raw)
  • Beets
  • Sunflower seeds
  • Tempe
  • Turnip greens (raw)
  • Garbanzo Beans

6. Organic Chicken

Without seasoning or breading, chicken could be a great way to balance your diet while suffering from hypercalcemia.

It can be hard to find foods high in protein but low in calcium content. Chicken can provide this essential role while helping to prevent the rise of blood calcium levels.

What to Avoid?

To lower calcium in your blood, these are some of the things to avoid.

1. Fish Bones

Fish can be a great food when trying to limit calcium intake. The harmful part comes when you eat fish such as anchovies or sardines, where the bones are eaten with the fish.

Often times, a single portion of sardines will cause you to overdo your calcium intake level for the day.

Fish bones should be removed from the diet when you have hypercalcaemia.

2. Dairy Foods

Dairy foods such as cheese, milk, and eggs are often high in calcium content. It is not hard to see why such foods should be avoided when dealing with hypercalcemia.

It is best to cut these dairy foods out of your diet until blood calcium levels return to normal.

3. Dark Green Vegetables (especially when cooked)

Often times, one of the most appealing health benefits of leafy greens such as spinach and kale happens to be their calcium content.

These dark green vegetables, especially when cooked, are high in calcium and thus should be avoided while suffering from high blood calcium levels.

4. Antacids

Many antacids have high calcium contents. They serve to neutralize the pH level of acid in your stomach in order to relieve things like indigestion, heartburn, acid reflux, or indigestion.

If you are currently taking antacids and you have been diagnosed with hypercalcemia, it is important to ensure that they are specialized antacids with a low calcium content.

5. Multivitamins

For many adults, multivitamins are a part of their daily routine. However, when experiencing hypercalcemia, your regular multivitamins may be giving you too much calcium.

Always read and follow the label.
